Fiesta Mk 5 from 1999-2002 was a thorough updating of the model that was launched in 1995.

The newer 2002-Present models offer more interior space than its predecessor thanks to the taller body design.

The 2002 to current models engines range through 1.25, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.6 petrol with a 1.4 TDCi. The 1.6 or 1.4TDCi are best regarded with new Ford Fiesta Sports Series fast approaching!

The old model 1.3 'Endura' petrol unit and the 1.8D diesel have limited power but the newer Zetec units are better. Ford Fiesta 1.25 is fine for town but the 1.4 is better all rounder and the 1.6 S is enjoyably quick. The 1.8 TDi turbo-diesel is refined and gives over 50 mpg.

Plenty of room in the front and seats on old models but rear legroom and headroom is limited as is the boot which is much improved on the newer 2002 models!

Fiesta merits a three-star Euro NCAP rating - but only just. It's here that the underlying 13-year-old design from the Fiesta Mk 3 shows up. The 2002 model is stronger showing in the Euro NCAP merits approaching top marks for crash testing with side and curtain airbags optional.

Ford Fiestas have good locks, immobiliser and alarm with double locks on top-spec models and not expensive to insure.

Service intervals on the Ford Fiesta are every 10,000 miles.
